FLYING, BAR-B-Q AND HANGAR LIES ARE ALIVE AND WELL AT
THE BROKE SPINNER SOCIETY’S SECOND SATURDAYS LUNCH
As every pilot knows, two of the true necessities of life are flying and food. Once upon a time at an airport not so far away Mike Shallbetter & I were trying to think of a place to fly for a burger. We both remembered Saturday afternoons, when at just about any airport, you always found lunch and friendly faces. So with the encouragement of Veteran Aviator John Randall, the Broke Spinner Society was born. We fired up the pit, set out a few tables and hoped for a dozen or so wayward pilots. The end of the day saw over twenty still telling stories and enjoying the airport. Ever since, the tales of the Barnstormer come alive on the second Saturday of the month for all of us who possess the true aviator spirit. Sunny days have often seen as many as 80 people and 45 aircraft from as far away as Mobile and Baton Rouge. Even on rainy days 40 or more of us usually gather at the pit for food and hangar flying at its finest.
In keeping with our humble beginnings, the Broke Spinner Society is a very informal social club. The only qualification for membership is a love of aviation and a desire for the comrade of others that are drawn to the sky.
Membership – One flying story.
Monthly Dues – One Hangar Lie.
THE BROKE SPINNER SOCIETY’S SECOND SATURDAYS
Second Saturdays are an all day social gathering. Mike and I keep it very loosely organized. There are no requirements, no sponsors, and no profits. The food is paid for by your donations. Just come and have fun!
HAPPY LANDINGS!
